Thanks, chica! I'll definitely let you know whenever I plan a trip back east. I know what you mean about moving and feeling weird about settling-in a making a life. I felt the same way about finally making it out here. I've always had a wandering gypsy heart, too. More than anywhere else I've been, except for maybe Amsterdam and NYC, I really felt like I found a place I could finally call "home". The energy just felt so right. I wish you and your family so much peace and happiness with where things are for you right now. It's so cool to meet you here, luv. I hope you're having a fun weekend x0x0x
Hey, that sounds like a plan! I will take you up on that when we make our way out west again : ) Same goes for you too, if you ever make your way to Boston! I will show you around. I have been to LA and SanDiegoand I know what you mean about the weather. LA had the best weather of anyplace I had lived. I was only visiting, but still. My Dad is from Chicago and I lived in NYC for 6 years back in the 80's. That was an interesting time of my life ; ) I am very happy to have had that experience. I traveled around alot when I was younger. I never liked to stay in one place too long. It's weird settling in and making a life. It has always felt like a foreign concept to me. For so many it's natural and for me it has always seemed the opposite. We traveled around, lived in a tent in the Kaibab Forest by the Grand Canyon when our oldest son was 3 yrs old. It was one of the best times of my life! I will talk to you again. Enjoy all the creative energy in San Francisco!
= )
Hey, luv! You're so welcome. I'm glad you checked out the site. They really do have some great healthy stuff that's loving to our dreads. I really do love it out here. There are definitely ups and downs -- just like the infamous streets -- but it is such a great environment for progressive minds and creative activity. I've been to Boston a few times. Believe it or not I grew up in Chicago and NYC. If I could afford it, and if I was in a mindset where I could deal with the gray cold winters again and super hot summers in Manhattan? I'd be living there for sure. So much is changing, though. Whenever I go back to visit old spots it's like that scene from Beetlejuice when the couple comes back to their old home and barely recognizes it. I love the weather out here so much. Milder summers. No slush, ice and windchills way below zero. And it's so awesome to be near the ocean. If you ever manage to take a trip out here do let me know and I'll take you up to The Haight for some coffee or tea and browsing the record stacks at the amazing Amoeba record store.
I hope you've been having a great summer in Boston. Take care and be well -- and keep up the great work on your young dreads! :o) x0x
Thank you That is a great website and I will definitely have to check out some of their stuff. I noticed you were in San Francisco! What a great place to live! I have never had the chance to visit yet even though I was born in the west, Phoenix, AZ. We are on opposite sides of the Country now. I live in Boston Thanks again for the info and positive vibes <3
You're so welcome, luv. Ask away -- no question is ever too strange/weird/repeated. My favorite go-to for Aloe Vera is Aubrey Organics (I order online because even in San Francisco not a lot of shops consistently carry their stuff)...here's a link to the one I use: http://www.aubrey-organics.com/ProductInfo/081.aspx. . I have used fresh aloe, too, but you can imagine how much of a project it is to harvest the aloe from so many leaves! Aloe plants are so kick-ass, though. I love having them around because they really are good for so many things. I really love Aubrey's stuff. I love their Green Tea clarifying shampoo, too (no sulfates and strange additives we don't need). Keep up the great work with your growing garden, chica. It's great to meet you, too! :o)
Thank you so, so much <3 I very much appreciate that! I love going natural as possible too, but down the road I might ask you about the root maintenance. What kind of aloe do you use? Is it right from the plant? We don't have live plants around here, but I could probably get some 100% aloe from somewhere. I have heard about using it on the roots. I'm going to cut and paste a pic of Toni Morrison to my desktop as inspiration when I decide to go gray dreads too. Thanks again and it's very nice meeting you! Have a wonderful week too !
@Kathleen -- isn't she incredible??! Believe it or not I started mine with a little back-combing, aloe vera, honey and twisting -- but I also did a bit of TnR along the way. Now I let them freeform a bit with light maintenance of my roots and palmrolling -- I love my fuzzies! Your young garden is definitely off to a great, healthy start. Your spiral curls are going to help them have so much beautiful character. Every single dread has its own story -- they don't have to look exactly the same or look like super, UBER perfect clones of each other (it's a bummer that some people really stress out about this in their early weeks and months). I can just imagine how awesome your dreads will be, chica -- before you know it, you'll be looking at your mature dreads and amazed at what a journey you're having. If you ever need an extra ear or some perspective, don't hesitate to give me a shout. I hope you're having a good week x0x
Oh my!!! I just looked up Toni Morrison and she is beautiful and so are her dreads! Wow! I think I'll have to gain a bit more grace before I can do that Thank you for the compliment too! Did you start your dreads the same as I with TnR? Yours are so gorgeous and healthy looking! Mine are 2-weeks old and still look like stuck together spiral curls which my hair naturally does anyway. The roots and each dread are very frizzy which I take as a good sign. It's hard to believe that they will turn into dreads at this point. Lol! But I still am enjoying them!
Beautiful!!! I LOVE your colors -- I hear you on the grays, too. One day I do want to have totally strong, silver dreads like the author Toni Morrison....but right now I'm really having fun dying them -- especially the light brown/dark blonde colors I'm wearing these days. I might even go back to my Manic Panic Hot Hot Pink sometime this year, but we'll see. Keep up the great work on your locks, chica. They're really coming to life x0x
I understand about not wanting to go gray. I'm 35 and about 25% and I'm just not ready to commit to being that natural I think you have the perfect hair for this. I would have loved to see how your hair turned out going completely natural and just separating as needed! Mine is just too short (and not near as curly as yours to go completely natural, so I gave mine help as well and some of it decided it wanted to do it's own thing anyway. I look forward to following your journey!
