a few less than ideal dreads

General Talk

Yes, any loose hair will dread up if left well alone. The only thing you'll need to do is wash it and separate if you notice any start tangling up together :)

a few less than ideal dreads

General Talk

Yeah, they'll be fine. Mine looked like a load of braids when I did mine myself 7 weeks ago. Now half of them have started looping up. I did a few of mine very tight though, through fear of them falling out and lack of knowledge or faith and those ones are only just starting to loosen up so I don't expect any loops for a couple weeks yet.

The dreading process is all about patience, I can't emphasise this enough. Just give it time and you will reap the benefits :)

Boomtown Fair

General Talk

Interested to know if anybody here is going to Boomtown Fair Festival in Winchester, UK, August 9-12? Slightly off topic, but I'm pretty sure there'll be loads of fellow dreadies going.

Peace!

Thanks SE. Yes, they're tnr. Really noticing some changes now. The roots of each dread keep trying attach themselves to roots of other dreads so I am separating early to avoid any congos. Loving this process though, because it means they are progressing nicely.

There are a lot of loose hairs, but I am loosely wrapping them around the nearest dreads in hope that they will cling on in time. I have been washing with Head and Shoulders (something I've always used) with no problems what so ever, that way I can avoid the dreaded dandruff that I hear so much about. I have tried to use regular body soap in my dreads a couple of times which dries them out nicely, but it leaves a residue on my scalp. I wash every two days, initially I was concerned that might be too often, but it works perfectly for my hair.

I am more and more in love with my little babies each day and love trying out lots of different up do's. I am praying they don't shrink too much, as I love the length and wanna continue to be able to put them up or tie them back.

Off to the coast later today, so I will be dipping my head in the sea for some of that natural goodness. I would prefer a swim, but our English summer sucks so bad that I'll be on the look out for Noah's ark with all this rain. I may have to take some sea water home with me in a bottle though.

I will get my earlier photos up here on this timeline later.

Have a lovely weekend people :)

Me before dreads. I would usually straighten my hair but this is its natural kink.

12 hours of twist and rip as I did them by myself......arms almost fell off!

Day 1 brand new dreads.

Week 1 - Favourite most dread-like baby.

Week 1 - Just woke up!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So, here we are; One month anniversary. Loving my lil' babies!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Some loops and bumps at 6 weeks :)

Trying not to look posey!

Underneath (wet dreads). Loving my new beads too!

My dreads look a strange colour because I used to bleach my hair (my bad) but then put a medium brown on it, that faded and I ended up with this strange hue! I'm happy with this colour though. So, here we are, nearly 6 weeks into my journey and I'm loving all the changes. New lumps and bumps springing out here, there and everywhere. Think I'll wait til my 2 month milestone before uploading again, unless there are any major changes.

Until the next time......Peace!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

7 weeks

This one seems to have doubled up and folded itself, think it'll fold once more before it starts to mature. Underneath again.. Just over 7 weeks into my timeline. Had to upload more photos as there have been so many changes this past week! I have to admit, when I began my journey 7 weeks ago, I didn't think I'd have it in me to stop worrying about my hair and it looking tidy. I questioned my vanity!!! I love the way my hair is natural and wild and I feel a sense of freedom in myself too! Til the next time......Peace out x

General Talk

Hello Amy.

I'm 7 weeks into my dreads and my partner hates mine also. I told him I'd love dreads about a year ago and he told me he'd leave me if I ever had dreads. Needless to say he didn't! I waited til he went on holiday with his friend abroad and put them in myself using the tnr method. He came back and was disgusted with me! He said "It's your hair, do what you like with it, but I hope you know, they look s**t!!!" Cheers then lol.

He still doesn't like them but the comments have stopped, especially since his friends complimented me on my dreads. He told me he won't marry me if I have dreads......he'll have to bloody propose to me first!!! Lol.

Just be head strong and don't back down. It's your husbands issue, not yours, his issue is not your concern, nor can you control it. He'll soon get bored of putting them down! Please don't let him tell you how you should or shouldn't wear your hair, you'll only kick yourself for it and resent him.

Believe me, I can relate. More power to us for being unique and true to ourselves :)

Dreadlock Nightmares...

General Talk

Hey BlasphemyBlack. Have you taken the plunge yet?

My boyfriend still isn't keen on them, he thinks I'll get bored of them and take them out. I corrected him and told him that these are keepers! One month in and they're coming along nicely. There are a few loops and lots of loose hair but I'm loving the process of it.

Dreadlock Nightmares...

General Talk

Glad I'm not the only one then lol. Coming up 3 weeks with my baby dreads and I am in love with them! I've had to separate a couple and start again with them as they were separating half way down each dread. But it's cool, I now have 44 dreads. Despite separating them to start with, using the T'n'R method, they still have a mind of their own and do their own thing. I have a bit of loose hair, but I kinda like it. I will upload another photo once I hit the one month mark.

Peace.
