HELP! I need your opinion on my hair and dreadlockshampoo products before I lock up!

General Questions

i love the dreadlocks shampoo. it smells awesome and besides baking soda and apple cider vinegar, it's the only thing i've used to wash my locks. i ordered the nag champa and i don't have complaint. in fact, if you tell them you are brand new to dreading they may even send a sample of the aloe. that's what they did for me. and when i went back to order the aloe, they sent me a sample of the nag champa shampoo! i'm set for a while! haha

Ahhhh okay okay so the clarifying is just pretty mucha random or special occasion thing. Like obviously right now to get all the conditioner out and like if I took a dip in a pool or something with hard water chlorine and what not. So would you suggest just goin ahead and getting the shampoo from dreadlockshampoo and using that until I devide to TnR? I'm def getting a couple liquid and the teatree rosemary bar you suggested

In bushnell/macomb, Illinois is cornerstone music festival. There are all types of music and this year happens to be the last year due to funding. I'm glad that my band gets to play it! I believe that it is July 2nd-7th. But this will be my sixth consecutive year going. I'm sad to see it end.

sunburnt scalp

Dread Maintenance

SE, I did the T&R method, but I was on a beach for a few days, so the sun got to my scalp since my hair was wet a lot of the time. I'll use the acv today when I shower! And Baba, I plan to give that a try. Thankfully there was no pain that went along with the burn, I just noticed a ton of peeling right where my scalp showed haha.Thank you both!

sunburnt scalp

Dread Maintenance

today i did my first baking soda wash because my scalp was getting itchy at the back of my head and i got a bit of sunburn on the top of my scalp. now i'm dealing with the "dandruff look" and i'd really like to get rid of that. (-_-)

i didn't rinse with ACV though. let's see how well this stuff works! i had been using the just 4 dreads soap from dreadlockshampoo.com, but thought i'd give it a shot today to hopefully get the peeling skin off. any other suggestions?

I used cotton thread to tie my dreads in together. twist and ripped the loose roots to the loose ends, and wrapped the thread around and tied.

Adding a friend's lock into my hair

Dread Maintenance

would you suggest hemp for the wrap, or are there other neat alternatives that work well?

Adding a friend's lock into my hair

Dread Maintenance

A friend that used to have dreads cut his all off and saved them. He is giving them to me and I would like to add one or two into mine. We've been best friends for a long time and I was best man in his wedding. We now live a considerable distance apart and this would be a way to keep that feeling of closeness. Would the best way to add his hair into mine be just through wrapping with hemp? I tried to crochet a regular extension into the end of one of my shorter locks, but it fell out a day or two later. THEN I read about the dangers of crocheting -_- *sigh*

so now i won't be doing that anymore but I want to put his in mine still. what has worked best for you guys and ladies?

Day 5 of my dreads and Day 1 of joining!

Introduce Yourself

thank you! she is not, but i talked about the site the ENTIRE time we were doing the R&T haha. i'm not entirely new to the dread process i guess... i have had four dreads for about 2 years now. two were accidents, and two were intentional haha! i thought about the doctor b's soap, but i'm gonna try to use up the shampoo i ordered first. i'll definitely check out that post. i'm still getting used to navigating around the site though! but i very much appreciate the warm welcomes and willingness everyone has to help each other out! =]

Hey, I sa this thread when you first started it, but I got distracted and forgot to go back and post on here.

Welcome. I'm so glad you didn't waste the $200. That'd have been a real shame. And I'm glad your friend wasn't egging you on to use wax. Are they on here? If not, urge them to join. This forum is not only for newbies. My locks are going to be 6 years old soon. I've been using Dr. B's for most of that time and in just the past month have learned how nice a good BS and ACV wash can feel. I tried the dreadlockshampoo soap but it wasn;t working out for me. I still use it as a body wash, though. It's great. Their gel is awesome too. The few new baby locks forming on my head have really come together since I started using it. I'm not that into products, but for a special event I would like them to look a bit more formed.

So, again, it's great that you found us. Don't feel shy. Everyone here is friendly, and is full of useful information. And there are tons of people at your stage, so you can always talk to them (and us, or course) about worries you have.

Dreadlocks are a 1 step forward, 2 steps back, process for about 6 month to a year. But the backward steps become shorter and shorter around 6-8 months. I don't like to self promote, but check out the thread "top secret". I made it a few months ago. Haven't much't had much recently, but people did post a few good tips and "need to know" facts there.

Good luck, and possibly start a timeline of pics, if you haven't already
