Dread Maintenance

Thank you! I'm loving this stage! The only 'issue' I have is the back of my head which is always kind of a mad house back there and gets/stays pretty matted and flat but I keep telling my self it shall pass and since I don't have to look at it it doesn't bother me too much haha!

By maintenance I simply meant that in the beginning I was sucked into thinking I had to do so much to have beautiful healthy dreads where now I know to just let them be. I separate them and wash them :)

To start them I back combed them, which I was concerned was maybe a poor choice but I've not had any issues at all.

Dread Maintenance

I've really fallen in love with the kinks and loops in my hair as they seemingly move and come and go. Maintenance has definitely become easier than when I first started!

Dread Maintenance

Oh wow! I can't believe it's been so long! I love my hair! Love it!

I just had someone tell me to put salt water in my hair to help straighten them. I think they look as they should, but I wanted your guys' opinions!

Thanks!

Crazy crazy dreads!

Dread Maintenance

Don't get me wrong! I'm not bothered by the messy, I'm so new to this still! I was a wee bit concerned because they had seemed to calm down and then BLAMMO! They went all loose hairy kinky nuts haha :)

Crazy crazy dreads!

Dread Maintenance

Hey there! So it's been a minute but all is still well and good in the land of dreads! I'm so happy I've gone down this road! Hands down I feel liberated!!!!

With that said though, look at this hot mess! Please tell me this is normal! My hair had seemed to calm down and were looking all together and then in the past couple weeks they've gotten all devious and naughty! Also the guys who live in the back are so flat :( Is that something that will work itself out on their own?

Thank you!!!

Introduce Yourself

So, nearly have made it to the two week mark!!! Whoot whoot go me!But vanity and pride aside. Most of my locks are looking good and well. A titch bit frizzy, a few have attempted mating which I have sent out the memo I'm a non supporter of such things at the moment, and my scalp has almost completely calmed the F down!My routine has been a wash every three days, I spritz with white vinegar and water, rinse, followed by knotty boy soap, rinse, rinse rinse and rinse again. Then I squeeze, and whip my hair back and forth, followed by releasing them to be free and dry. I have a few that have some largeish bits of hair which have escaped and one little guy who hides in the back behind the bigger and louder ones that seems to be revolting. He hasn't undone himself but is definitely working towards I feel. As for the escapees, do I just allow them to eventually get with the flow in their own time? And the revolutionist in the back? Should I just allow him to just be the creeper in the back that everyone side eyes? Also, zippers. Oh how I've begun to loath them. Always grabbing and pinching and pulling and making me sad. Rings. Another thing I seem to get caught in my hair. Is this something others have dealt with? Also, also, am I doing this right?!?!Ive also gotten mad raves about how awesome they look!Have a blessed day!!

So many questions so little time!

Very hot water. Check. Dawn. Check. We did blow dry it in :( Because, you know, that's what the directions say to do. Sigh.Any thoughts on Knottyboy shampoo? Thats what I bought and honestly don't want to waste it :/ But if you have any compelling info on it I guess I'd rather waste than ruin. After its gone I'm more than content to get back on the be/acv routine :)

Haha! Thanks for the vote of confidence! My dear husband put them in and was pretty appalled when I changed up in the middle of it all. But it really was a palm to face moment! I eat naturally, believe in natural medicine, I had stopped using shampoos and conditions, stopped using after shower hair products, and the list continues so I don't know how the dread product pushers snagged me!!As for the dawn wash, is there a special way to go about it? And how will I know that nasty crap is out?!?! It's beyond me how people incorporate it into their routines! I hated it so much! But let me say this, dreading my hair and starting this journey has been one of the most liberating choices of my life! I knew it would be a change in my appearance but I had no idea just how deep the change would be felt!Have q blessed day!
