mine was short to start too a fewbeads helped

Beads also help a lot. Once you've got a decent dread started, pop a bead on and after a while you'll notice that it's a bit tighter

Introduce Yourself

About your hair being dyed, I had dyed mine about 6 months before and I think it looks fine. Lol about half of my hair is black and half is my natural brown, but it's not that bad. A lot of people have said it looks cool. When it gets longer you can cut the dyed part off and it should stay locked. Even it it doesn't it'll lock back up in time.

And I'd definitely agree with Soaring Eagle on the biotin. My hair naturally grows really fast and I started taking biotin and it doubled. It takes a while of daily use before it works, but when it works it works. Good luck on your dread journey, it's a fun one

2 week old backcombed dreads

Dread Maintenance

Washing them will loosen them up at first but I don't really think it's anything to worry about. I notice that after I wash my dreads I'll have a lot of loose hairs,  but the dreads themselves just feel better and tighter and I can see the improvement made since the last wash.

Basically, they're gonna loosen up, but you've already got the dreads formed so all you need to do is wash them and let them do the rest of the work. In time you'll notice the changes and it is really awesome to notice the changes day to day. One day my dreads will look like a mess with fuzzy loose hairs and the next they'll look amazing. You've just gotta go with the flow

Natural methods to help hair start dreading?

Dreading Methods

My main worry is that they've been forming, but I'll get my hair wet and not even wash it and they come loose. I've lost all but one. They'll reform and then drastically loosen when it gets wet. I just started trying sea salt spray today.

Natural methods to help hair start dreading?

Dreading Methods

I started about a week or two ago and already have about 5 or 6 little baby dreads forming. One is starting out great and the others are doing alright. The rest of my head is a curly mess, so I was wondering if there was any natural ways to help the dreads form? I don't want to backcomb or twist and rip and I don't want to use any products. Thanks!
