How does the South West weather affect your dreads?

Simple and easy I was wondering if the weather from this region affect your dreads at all? I'm from Arizona, where it get's up to 115 and it's quite easy to sweat, and get your dreads pretty stinky dirty, was wondering what can be said to help other members in this region to help them get through the nasty summers?
