Pre-Dreading Thoughts

Hello everyone!Well I am less than a month away to having dreadlocks again. (Long story short - had them 11 years ago, used a DIY kit, was grossly misinformed, removed them after only two months). The reason I am waiting is that I have a posh wedding to go to and since my wonderful boyfriend is going to be the one to dread me, I am honoring his request to wait (he is very supportive in my journey). This time around, I am finding that I am completely deluged with all this information. I am 100% mind, body, and spiritually ready for dreads, I am just (k)not sure which method to use to start them and aftercare. I am caucasian with mixed textured hair (it's coarse, thick, and curly on the bottom and fine, limp and super wavy on the top.) I only wash my hair once or twice a week and only use a wide tooth comb or pick once every month or so. I used the back-combing method the first time and I found that my hair doesn't take to teasing very well and all those hours were wasted because even though I used wax, they were coming loose. (I also wasn't washing it which probably contributed to it because of the excessive oils, maybe?) I was thinking about getting it started in a salon but there are just way too many horror stories. So, if there is anyone out there that could offer a couple of pearls of wisdom it would be much appreciated. =)

Thanks for the advice! Grandpa's is a natural soap I use for my body and I've used Bronner's for the same. My hair is pretty fickle, how bout salt sprays? I use them now on a regular basis and haven't had a problem with dry out.

mango lymes fir african hair and i dont think it should be used by them either

bronners is fone if u diont have hard warer

www.dreadlockshampoo.com makes the best soaps ..and he gel they sell is like no other

backcombing comes loose it has to the 1st 4 mo ths should be loose

palm rolling does nothing except harm them

if the wax was removed and they were alowed to come loose they would end up fine

Thank you so much for such quick comments on my post! I replied to another comment but I believe I did it wrong. Anywho, DreadHead was the kit I started with and I also found out the my hair is resistant to back-combing, The dreads were loosening and no amount of palm-rolling helped and it was just a nightmare. Plus all those silly rubber bands were to worst to get undone. This time around I am definitely staying away from wax but I had a question about the Jamaican Lime line. I sell it where I work and I was thinking of heavily diluting the locking gel to keep the locks neat. My job is okay with me dreading but I still have to work with the public so I want to look somewhat presentable. I also have Dr. Bronner's where I work and Grandpa's Soap. Has anyone use Grandpa's for their dreads?
