Also, my locs have already been started using the backcomb method (which I'm regretting because of the breakage, but it's a little late) and I've noticed that I have a lot of loose hair now 6 months later. My hair is naturally pretty straight, so I'm wondering if there are any recommended maintenance things I should look into.

welcome we no longer recommend baking soda for long term use it weakens the hair severely

also lemon juice penetrates into the inner layers of the hair shaft, and as a strong acid (much stronger then acv) (in  fact "dis-solv-it" is an industrial strength dissolver made just from citrus

it dissolves glues tar caulk all adhesives rubber..etc etc

i would switch to a good dread shampoo soon as you can
