well you just got to keep on top of separating them..but at 3 months they shouldn't be dreaded they should be loose and messy
but separated so they aren't just 1 big dread

welcome but the maintenance, especially the crochet was a huuuuge mistake
backcombing after they wete already dreading only reset progress to day 1
crochet stopped progress dead in its tracks for 6 months typically and will take typicallyh 3 years to recover from...with irreversible permenant damage
the best thing you can do is wash and go leave them alone separating only as nesacary and absolutely no other harmful maintenance..especially not crochet
