Dread Shampoo that wont go away!

Help! Save My Dreads

Welllllll, this is probably BAD advice so take it with a grain of salt buuuut...Once upon a time on my first set of dreads, I used Dr. Bronner's straight from the bottle for a period of time- I had no idea, lol - and oh it was bad. My hair ended up insanely greasy because it wouldn't come out so I finally resorted to Dawn dish soap. I had tried baking soda and vinegar but to no avail. After the dish soap, my hair was super clean but I've been told it's wicked bad for your hair AND scalp because it completely strips your natural oils from them.Like I said, probably bad advice but if all else fails... It worked for me.Best wishes! And with the other suggestions people have offered, you may not need to resort to what I did, lol.

job interview

Introduce Yourself

Congratulations on the opportunity to interview and best of luck!I just landed a couple of jobs with my dreadlocks (CNA at a nursing home and a hospital) and tied my hair back for the interviews. Neither had any idea I was dreading and when they realized I was, had no issues with it because my hygiene is good - when you're involved in close direct pt care, hygiene is easily noticed, lol.I think you should be fine. Many are starting to accept dreadlocks. Especially if they're aware of how they're maintained and what they truly are.All my best!

Shampoo to use while backpacking...

General Questions

I second what Soaring Eagle said. One big bottle of Dr. Bronner's could last you the better part of forever! I use it with hard water and have no problems. I just pour a very small amount on my hands, work it into my mane, and rinse. That's not the correct way, I'm sure, but it shows how easily it can be used to rinse.Best wishes and have fun!

Introduce Yourself

Sorry I'm of no use to you but I'm wondering the same thing... Ugh. It's hard to assure people you're a clean dreadie when you're flakier than a leper. Lol

Just joined and wanted to say hello. :)

Introduce Yourself

Welcome! I enjoyed reading your introduction! Lol, unfortunately I'm not as cool as the previous posters... I died on WoW then couldn't find my body. I was totally confused and my brother wouldn't help, HA!!! That's the extent of my WoW experience.I do however relate to the story of your second set of dreads. I combed my first set out for the same general reason... I started them in the midst of a very long and drawn out break up. They were full of bad vibes. Similar to you I regretted it and here I am with you today! All the best!

Can nursing students live on campus?

dreads jobs employment issues

If you go to a university for your BSN you could live on campus. Otherwise, nursing school for an LPN or RN is usually done at the community college or tech school level. Most colleges like those do not provide on-campus living but it's not unheard of. Just be sure to research where you're wanting to go.I'm in your boat and looking to attend nursing school someday soon.Best wishes!

Flat and loopy?

Introduce Yourself

You're getting to the fun part! My last set was backcombed and they were all extremely fat and loopy! This current set is starting to do the same. I had one starting to round back up when I combed the first ones out. Patience and they'll calm down.Best wishes! :)

Dreaming of dreads!

Introduce Yourself

Hey! Christians can have dreads. As a matter of fact, if Soaring Eagle's post wasn't convincing enough, I would imagine that if you do it for reasons involving disregarding conventional standards of beauty and humbling yourself, it would be a MORE Christian lifestyle than many non-locked Christians live. :)As for extensions, I saw an interesting tutorial on another board where a girl simply tied them onto her dreads. Yours would have to be mature for this. And yeah, unfortunately many of those extremists have given us all a bad rap. Their agenda is one of oppression and forcing our "beliefs" on everyone. Many, if not all of them, can be dangerously ignorant. And they do not speak for us all.Lol, I'm dangerously socially progressive though from their standpoint. I prefer love, understanding, and staying humble over enforcing my beliefs on others. I also prefer the government stay OUT of my church's affairs and therefore my churches stay OUT of my government's affairs!!! That can open up many a' cans of worms...I just pray for the best and I try to live my best.Much love!!!
