Better late than never

Introduce Yourself

I'm in the Riverton area... About 10 mins away from the prison off i15. Ya, I haven't seen too many people with dreads around here either! And it is hella funny to see people reactions huh!?! LOL! This is my second set. The first ones I started with dread wax from I think it was Knotty Boy and it was a HUGE mistake! I ended up cutting em off after about a month! That wax is some nasty shit! I'm happy for you that you didn't have to go through that horrible experience like so many of us have! :)

Thanks, where in Utah are you?! Not a whole lot of people with dreads around here. I'm already enjoying the different reactions I'm getting. People can be pretty crazy sometimes. I never even heard about those until I got on this website so looks like I just got lucky :)

General Talk

Something I realized long ago... when someone throws something negative at me (whether it be a comment or a look) I like to respond with something positive! It usually always catches em off guard! Kill em with kindness! It seems to make em think bout what they said or did and they wonder why it just rolled right off my back and didn't have the intended effect! LOL!... I love it! I can almost see this thought process in their eyes! Be the bigger man/ woman! I am by no means perfect and still, sometimes my first reaction is to want to respond back with something negative but all that does is bring you down to their level! That's my take on this!

Hi Sarah! I agree with what has already been said!... A healthy diet (lotsa fruits n veggies, staying properly hydrated), & supplements (Biotin works for me, maybe multivitamins). I'd try those out! On a side note... Ive found that washing/ rinsing with SE's baking soda/ ACV rinse has helped TREMENDOUSLY with knotting my hair! Until I started using BS/ACV my hair was hella stubborn! :) If you haven't already tried that you might wanna... Could speed up the whole process for ya like it has for me! Good luck... Keep it knotty! :p

Maybe so, I guess to be truly fair I need to give it more time huh!?! Have you heard of anyone else having problems with super too-soft hair?... Like nothing has helped it lock really well till I tried the BS/ACV!... It seems to work miracles with my locks! It seems my locks want the BS right now at this stage but maybe they'll want that wonderful soap at another stage? I don't know... Either way I accept whatever works! )

help with scalp gunk...please!

Help! Save My Dreads

Sup SE? Yeah, just last week I received an order from dreadlockshampoo.com! I ordered one of their patchouli dread soap bars and they were kind enough to send me a small sample bottle of that new liquid shampoo (I believe it's the one they made at Heathers request... Am I correct?), and also included a sample of some facial exfoliating soaps! Talk about top notch service! I absolutely love the smell of the patchouli but it seems to leave my hair a little too soft! I just think I have super particular hair that likes to stay soft! Im still gonna use it though and experiment with a sea salt rinse after just to be fair and give it my all! I tried a little of the liquid shampoo too but same thing... Left my hair a little too soft! I honestly think I have abnormal hair cause it takes ALOT of effort to dry it out (I gotta use quite a bit of sea salt to do so)! I'm not givin up though... They make excellent products and I'd recommend them to everyone! I ain't gonna lie though... Right now I'm havin a super wet-hot-n-steamy love affair with the baking soda/ vinegar rinse! LOL :p It's sped up the locking n knotting tenfold the last couple weeks since I've started using it!

help with scalp gunk...please!

Help! Save My Dreads

Sup? Well, here's what I'd do: I'd experiment with the BS mixtures! If you don't use enough BS it WILL leave that nasty-ass scalp gunk behind... from my experience. Try this: 1) 1/3 cup BS in 1 gallon pitcher. 2) Mix really well with hot water, pour over your head n let soak for bout 10 mins. 3) Try lightly scrubbing all around your scalp with your fingertips... before rinsing the BS off really well (It can help break up that oily-skin-cell paste). 4) Rinse really really well preferably with a high pressure shower head as SE has mentioned before. 5) Mix a couple splashes of ACV in that rinsed out gallon pitcher with warm/ hot water, pour over your head n rinse off after maybe 15 seconds with really cold water! If you have no luck with this I'd give Burt's Bees Natural shampoo a try! Out of the shit-ton of diff shampoos I've tried it seems to have been the best & most dread friendly AFTER the BS/ ACV BY FAR! Good luck & I hope to have been some help! Keep It Knotty! :p

so, here is an update

I have been using the suave dailyclarifying shampoo and it seems to be working great. I have been putting whatever I use in a very large cup and then letting the shower head fill and mix it up and then pouring it over my head and scrubbing. This seems to be the current solution as i havent been having the gunk problem. I tried the DHHQ shampoo once more and it still left gunk, im done with it. so i am gonna do the suave most days and the nutrogena anti-residue every once in a while. I still want to find something a bit more natural and less commercial, so i will see what i can find, but for now this seems to be working. Any continued suggestions/comments/questions are still welcome. Thank you so much everyone for the help!
