Dreads & racism

Life Issues Facing Dreads

I mean come on to me it's obvious. Maybe she is not attracted to "black people" idk. But to say white people look better than black people with dreads is a comment that should be kept to themselves. I think people who look hot with dreads, simply LOOK HOT WITH DREADS. But then again i am color blind..i like good looking girls..idc what color

Why is it ignorant?

If someone said "I do not think red heads look good with dreads", it would be a generalization, and a ignorant one, yes. Just like if someone said "White people do not look good with dreads", it would be a generalization, and an ignorant one. Racist? Maybe. Ignorant? Definately.

Humm I can see why some one might see this has "racist" but I think this is just a question of personal taste oropinion. For example if some one would say " I do not think red heads look good with dreads" would this be considered "racist"? Now some might say that red hairedpeopleare not a "race" but once again I must ask the question how does one define race?I agree that the comment maybe lacks a bit of maturity (no offence ) but having anopinionon looks is not being "racist". Racism in myopinionisbelievingthat there is such a thing as race when it comes tohumans. Sorry for going off topic.

Wow someone here actually said white people look better with dreads and in the same breath said they are not racist? Where do you live where "black" people would yell at you for having your hair in a certain fashion? No matter how you try to jewel it up, saying that ANY race looks better with something is completely ridiculous. How can you judge an entire race simply on a hair style and say that NO ONE in that race looks good like this?

White people do not look better with dreads. Black people do not look better with dreads. It is the "individual" that looks better with dreads. You dig what i am saying.

In my opinion, "white" people look better with dreads. I dont't know why. I'm not racist at all. I love everyone all the same, but I think it's because I see more caucasion people with dreads than african americans. Since mine are babies, I'm afraid of "black" people coming up to me and yelling at me for having them. Especially at school. I just did them so no one at school has seen me yet (kids at my high school are so bad. They will make fun of you over the littlest things). But yeah. I don't know what it is with people though. I guess since african americans think it's "their hairstyle" that they need to defend it? I don't know though. Everyone's different. Love and harmony to you all <3

Exactly my point! they themselves are racist. Look at the hebrews who were slaves. Hell look at what happened to the irish! The person who did that entire "thread" obviously was a racist themselves and really did not pay attention in history class

I just read this too and I find it very simplistic. It disregards many historical facts. First the person implies that 'whites' are the only ones who had slaves..bullshit we allknowthat is a load of crap, all groups hadslaves in one form or the other. Second 'whites' had 'white' slave as well. And it disregards some one who is 'white' but has mixancestry( like me). What is my culture? Sorry but this is just a load of crap who ever is theauthorof this seems to be racistthem self.

Finally took the time to read this link http://makezine.enoughenough.org/mohawksdreads.htm . I would personally say i believe this idea of racism is invalid. Although i am sure there are some people who may feel this way i personally believe its a step in the right direction towards seeing everyone as equals by looking the same "in appearance". Idk where this style came from and idc (fully). I like to see a style for many cultures and to have something as simple as hair bring people together. Racism will live as long as we as people are living. The site outline "anyone outside of non-white has the right and title to wear the hair this way" and if you are indeed "white" and choose to have your hair dreaded or a mohawk it is a form of racism/ignorance toward the fact. If this is the thought of many then we are moving no where in the fight.

Honestly i feel like everyone with dreads are like brothers and sisters. I love to see others with dreads and even those starting dreads. It feels like we all have AT LEAST ONE thing in common. It may be something as simple as hair but if thats all it takes to bring people together then do be it. I personally always liked dreads i just never had the guts to try doing it. I started now and love it! My wife is one who HATED dreads and thought that it only made people look poor and unkempt. Now see wants to see if she can dread our daughter's hair :)
