that was me! i LOVE that shampoo. it has done wonders for my hair. i recommend it to everyone.

yeah i really dont touch it much other than getting it out of my eyes if i dont have it back. i have very fine straight hair. but i just started using a new shampoo and my hair is already knotting up way more than before, i went ahead and ordered a tam so hopefully that'll help speed it up aswell. and to anybody having problems with hard water try desert essence lemon tea tree oil shampoo, the difference of cleanliness was INSANE compared to bs/acv. i think it was heather that suggested it somewhere else on here actually

don't separate sections so often. i did that a lot in the beginning because i was so concerned with getting congos but i was ultimately just undoing progress. also a tam would probably work well for you.

Love your dreads and they will love you back!

Dreadlocks Journey Emotional Support

i totally agree, crystal. it took me a good 5 - 6 months to really relinquish control over my hair and not worry about every little thing thats happening or not happening. some get it from the beginning and others(like me) don't like not having control but thats when patience comes into play. my hair is doing some weird things lately but i just remind myself that its all a part of the journey and i need to just embrace it. that and avoid mirrors at all costs:)

Question about bs wash

Dread Maintenance

if you truly have hard water you will know once you try to mix your bs with tap water. it doesn't dissolve which is great for scrubbing your sink or shower like you would comet but for cleaning your hair you will end up with baking soda all over your scalp. the only way i can get baking soda to completely dissolve in water is to use distilled water.

Seriously thinking of shaving my hair off.

Dreading Methods

same here! everyone said when i started to wear a tam to help with the knotting. well, i wore a tam to bed every night and off and on during the day for about 5 months and didn't get a single knot. when i stopped wearing it my hair started to knot. weird.

Panterra Caraway said:
I would say you were right...except the whole 6-7 mos. that I wore it I had NO KNOTS AT ALL. After I stopped wearing it out of frustration the knots started....?????????????? Maybe my hair is just weird...sigh.

I'm thinking maybe the culprit is your tam? I have little knowledge on it, but common sense tells me being balled up in there may have caused them to bunch up and dread that way...

Dreading Methods

i'm definitely no where close to 35 locks on my head but i have about a dozen established ones. i had one big flat one in the front that was about 3 inches wide on the end from all the zig zaging it had done. it pulled on my scalp and caused so much pain. i hated it. i tried everything to comb it out and it wouldn't budge. i ended up lopping off either side of the zig zag with scissors so it was more in line with the rest of the dread. then i wrapped it in embroidery thread. i figure it will have to remain wrapped forever or it will just fall apart. i do like that lock better now though and i don't have the pain anymore. i'm not sure if that would be an option for you or not. what about waiting it out a little longer and letting your hair grow more and then cut the big ends off when its at a length you can live with?

awwww, panterra. i know exactly how you feel. i've even been considering a drastic cut. you and i have definitely had a hard journey. its really tough seeing all these people with beautiful locks that were formed in a matter of months when you and i have waited so long just to get a few. right now i'm just trying to make it to a year and then i'll go from there. i have a few "knot blobs" i call them that i'm definitely not happy about. i don't think mine are anywhere close to the size of yours though because you have thicker hair. what about combing out the ones your not happy with? maybe t&r some sections for some control amongstthe chaos?

i really don't know what to tell you because i'm pretty much in the same boat you are. all i can do is offer love and support and know that whatever you decide to do we will all be here for you. {{{BIG HUGS}}}

Hair Loss?

General Questions

its the natural shedding hairs. im on the long natural route so i still have a lot of sections that aren't completely knotted so i still lose a lot of hair. i find it on my pillow, shoulders, stuck to my shirt, etc. all the time. frustrating but it will stop once everything locks up.

The waiting game?

Dread Maintenance

you have a long road ahead of you. throw your hair in a tam and stay away from all mirrors for at least 6 months to a year. they don't call it a journey for nothing:)
