Mad Professor

Dread Maintenance

Firstly, you shouldn't be using lemon juice. It makes hair brittle.

There should always be some loose hair on top of your scalp. This is how the roots keep locked. If there is a lot of loose hair then maybe the pressure of your shower is keeping it from wrapping up in the dreads before a certain length (just a suggestion).

Wish I could of been more help. You could post some pictures so we have a better idea of what you are dealing with.

Hitchhikers/travelers?

Alternative Lifestyles and Subcultures

I'm a hitch-hiker. I just returned home from a trip all over Ireland. It's a great way to get around. You get to meet some really lovely people.

Some advise: Travel as a male and female pair. You will increase your chances of getting a lift as people seem to be generally less threatened or more accepting of couples. With two male hikers, you can see why women wouldn't be too quick to pick them up. Two women; men will be hesitant in fear that sexual assault may be claimed in the hope of a court settlement. I think people are quite wary these days (in Ireland at least).

This part is not meant to scare you... Carry a whistle. If you get into a situation you are not comfortable with, just whip it out and blow as hard as you can. Personally, I don't carry one, but I am confident in my ability to defend myself having practised karate for over 12 years. Most of the people you will meet will be the loveliest people on earth, but you can never be too careful these days.

Depending on how far you are going, you will need more than a "few hundred". Money can just fly out of your pocket when you're on the road. Food will be a big expenditure, as will accommodation (unless you camp or couchsurf). Camping will be far easier to do as hosts will need to know in advance when you will arrive. And, how can you even know when that might be?

Check out this site for when you're planning your trip. http://hitchwiki.org/

I highly suggest that you do actually couchsurf if you plan to stay in a city for a few days andthink you can judge when you arrive fairly accurately. You will need to get some references on your profile first though. Go and look at the activities in your area, meet the people, join in the activities and have fun. Or host if you can (even better).

I leave for New Zealand in just over two weeks, so i will be doing a lot of this kind of thing over the next year.

Have fun, stay safe and don't get in a car if you get any kind of bad vibe off the people. Remember, you can be too safe. Just have an excuse made up. Maybe they are not going far enough, or something of that nature. I've only had to do this once. Everyone else I've met were just deadly people, often hitchers themselves.

Natural Shampoo

Dread Maintenance

All I use is the BS/ACV rinse. It will do the job perfectly. It is a bit of a hassle going through the process multiple times a week, so I just do it once a week and rinse my hair out with cold water on the other days.

Social Work

dreads jobs employment issues

I've known some social workers who were hippy types, but none with dreads. I highly doubt they would be a problem in this context. just keep them neat, look and, most importantly, act professional. I'm sure it wont be a problem for you.

Dreading super fine long hair?

Dreading Methods

No, but the longer the hair the more noticeable the shrinkage.

Baby dreads are very easy to pull apart if you need to. Just check them twice a week and get them down to the size you need. It will be very easy, so don't worry about it. They will soon clump into the natural sections and it will then be your job to keep them from joining together. There really is not much to it.

Dreading super fine long hair?

Dreading Methods

You are going to have to separate, regardless. TnR dreads come completely undone sometimes. It will be a mess for a few months, no matter what method, but there are plenty of people who started with waist length hair, also super sine and went natural. You will loose a lot of length though when they shrink and tighten up.

Dreading super fine long hair?

Dreading Methods

Since you will have been using normal shampoos and conditioners for so long, you should buy a clarifying shampoo and use it once or twice to get rid of all the residues that will have built up.

With hair that long it will take an age to do tnr. Also, there is no guarantee that they will even stay in. Most tnr dreads come apart at the start, which is normal. I would just let them grow free form. All you have to do is wash and separate. Easy!

I should add, there is nothing you can do to keep the hair locked in the early stages. Locking comes as they mature, over the course of a year.

It's not evidence because it is argument from authority. Provide some references. Show us that it actually happened. As for the snake bite, we don't know what kind of snake it was for starters. We dont know how much venom was injected with the bite. We have no evidence to go on.

You are an idiot SE. You just want everything to conform to your "naturalistic" views. It is pure bias on your part.

Yet again, SE, you make claims with nothing to back them up. Absolutely nothing there could be considered evidence.

I'm done here. There is no arguing with stupidity. That is why I left the last discussion. You're a fool and you're too stupid to even realise it. It seems like the blind leading the blind here, at the best of times.

Derek, that is not how medicine works at all. Everything can be a poison. It's all about dosage and finding the right balance. Just because all medicines don't work perfectly, doesn't mean we are not on the right track. As I said before, we are at the beginning of a bio-tech explosion. The future is looking extremely bright.

If anyone has objections to modern medicine, please abstain. I love to see evolution do its work.

Actually, SE, I'm a psychologist. Huge difference. But you will be happy to know that I start studying medicine when I return from New Zealand, in a years time. Character bashing is a lowly tactic, generally employed by people with no real argument.

Anyway, what exactly qualifies you to give out medical advise? I'm simply putting my side across, just like you. I think it is important to note that the last time we had a discussion like this, you were suggesting that it was a good idea to stare into the sun. Your foolishness is matched only by your bias.
