or i guess more directly is there an alternative to a wool hat or tam that would be comfortable for the heat?

i may just have to tie my hands behind my back haha but yeah i can see how thats almost the same as a comb. i may just put in a couple tnr dreads for now to remind me to not touch the rest while they develop. do you have any tips for keeping my hair out of the way at work(manual labor) that dont inhibit the dreading?

Ok awesome haha i was afraid surfing would undo them. Usually i wash with anything thats around normally barsoap but sometimes head and shoulders but i switched a couple weeks ago to bakingsoda and distilled vinegar, and now that you mention it yeah i do run my hands through it from time to time but its usually up in a ponytail, but in general my hair has never been the type to knot up.

well sectioning dont matter at all as long as u dongtt have lots of hair from 1 section going into another random sections and sizes will look best (within reason lijke 1/4 inch to an inch)

surfing will help them tremendously

how you been washing all your life and do u run fingers through it aloyt?

thats probly why its dread resistent

On the verge of starting my dreadlock journey

Introduce Yourself

Hey everyone Im Luis and im writing from Puerto Rico. after doing months of research on dreadlocks and how toachieve-them i stumbled on this site a few months back. (thankfully) I wanted to thank SE and all the other members for contributing and creating a fountain of truth amongst the staggering misinformation online. Had i not found this page i surely would have gone the wax route on the dreadlock journey i plan to begin this weekend.

A bit about me, i have beenfascinatedby dreads since i was a kid but never considered doing them myself until thebeginningof this year on account of a military family that up until recently hasnt been very open minded haha. Im of Colombian decent my hair isrelatively curly but thin. i havent used a comb pretty much for my whole life and i havent developed dreads haha so i think im going to go with the TNR method just to get jump started.i had a few questions, is deliberately sectioning out your hair necessary with this method or can i over the course of a few days put in random dreads? I surf.. a lot would this adversely affect baby dreads? Although i prefer relatively neat dreads i wouldnt mind the loops and bumps that add character to each dread, what i would really like to avoid is the scalpy look. would a larger number of small dreads or smaller number of larger dreads be the way to go to avoid this?

Thanks in advance! I look forward to participating more in the forums.
