Suggestions on separating already formed dreads?

I see no problem in having a few big dreads. I'm letting two happen either side of my head and I'lldefinitelybe allowing congos happen further down the line. If the congos take up more than an inch at this stage, however, I would separate them. Wait until they are mature so I can decide what is best. Even if you do break some hairs, the dread will suck them back in while it shrinks and matures.

Duly noted, thanks for the advice.

I find it easier toseparate right after i wash them. The few hairs that are holding the dreads together will break. Separating is often called popping or ripping because you will hear the hairs break. It is normal. It doesn't make your dreads weaker like the breakagecrochetdoes. If they are only a few months old, don't use conditioner to separate unless it is a solid mass. The conditioner will loosen the hair inside your dread.

I personally love big locs :) I have seperated a few congos using jojoba oil. Worked very well.
