ExaltHim, I'm glad you said this. I used to belong to a church, but found it an unhappy experience. I've come to the conclusion that churches are not healthy places for women. Also, though I'm straight, I wouldn't want to belong to anything where gay people weren't welcome and accepted. To me churches have lost the plot when it comes to taking on Jesus' teachings and his way of living. I've known individual Christians who are sincerely trying to,who like you believe it's really a matter of the heart, but they often get disapproval from their church. Yet as far I can can read into the Bible, Jesus put love above social and doctrinal conformity.
Also, many Christian churches and leaders dismiss environmental issues, things the Bible didn't foretell (please correct me if I am wrong). In this they are out of step with the urgent needs of the time.
