I don't understand why they don't dread into the dread that's right next to it, but I usually pull them out until they dread into the dread closest to them.Should I stop doing this or is it essential to do this to prevent jumbo dreads from appearing all over? Today I had to detangle a dread for about half and completely detangle a smaller one that was hopelessly tied into it leaving a dread that was like 2 inches wide at the scalp. It just struck me as weird that I can't just let them do whatever.

New hairs dreading into a dread that's "too far away".

All you need to do is rip them apart. No reason to untangle them at all.
Hair still grows out of your head one strand at a time. So before it gets sucked into a lock, it moves around and may get pulled into a lock far away. This isn't bad for them. And if you just keep up with separating, it won't get out of control.
I posted a few vids on my page about how to separate.
