So... thinking of outside the Ashland, OR area for camping. We're planning a road trip/car camping trip down to the Nevada City CA area to visit my sister. We used to always do that long drive in one…Continue

I live in Longview/Vancouver area, from Tacoma, Washington. Do most camping in Mineral where family has some undeveloped acreage adjacent to Weyerhaeuser land, so LOTS of trails. Anyone have favorite 2-day or even long day hikes in southern WA/norther OR?
(it literally only took about 30 mins to get in, but Beaver Creek/Beaver Falls just across the Columbia into OR on Hwy 30 was beautiful!)

I love a place called Rapid creek, there is so much moss lichen and punga ferns with beech trees, when you get to the top of the hill the stars r so amazing. I just so love the smell of the sweet earth,it is a place like this i intend to be when my kids r grown.

That is a great call. I don't have kids yet, but I'll definitely remember that one

Trial run in the backyard seems like a fabulous idea. I should give that a go sometime over the next couple weeks :)

Some of us will be in the yurts.I haven't taken the youngster camping yet, but plan on a trial camp in the backyard this summer.

That sounds so nice! We'll be going in June but we're getting a yurt for the kids. The baby is VERY easily spooked so far so we are easing into things. We hike a few times a week though :)

Going camping next weekend! Pinery Provencial Park in Ontario. It's also a bachelor party. First trip in a couple years, very excited!!
Comment by Charlie Mornin on April 26, 2012 at 11:34am New Zealand anyone? I was born here and my parents are from Washington. Been back and forth many times and I think I've seen some of the great outdoors there is to see.

Baba Fats-Definatley agree with you. I lived there for a year and loved it! So much to see in such a small state.
Fish- I lived in washington state for a year as well, Awesome places for hiking, I hiked every single weekend rain, snow or shine. Snowshoeing is great there.

Any one else think that West Virginia is the most beautiful state to hike in? There's just so many places to go that you can't find anywhere else. Dolly Sods in probably the coolest nature preserves I have ever been to. Plus they have a world renowned river to white water raft.
