Healing Crystal Dread Beads!

Dread Accessories

I make all kinds of dread accessories... I have even included crystals in some of my designs. Do you have a photo of something similar to what you would like? Do you want a healing crystal wrap completely metal free including wire to secure the crystal? What materials would you like to see? Perhaps I can make you something custom. :)https://www.etsy.com/shop/HeatherfishCreations

I love a good creative challenge :)

crochet dreads discussion and pictures

Dreading Methods

Even with the possibility of being hammered for this (there were some pretty strong opinions up there) I must say, I use a number 8 crotchet hook on my dreads about once every 2 months to take care of my new growth. I have done it for a year and a half and have had no issues and no breakage... There really is a right and wrong way to use one... and no, I don't tighten up my dreads so much that they stick straight out... that looks like it would be rather uncomfortable...

Baby dreads... Extensions?

Dread Accessories

I added extensions to mine about 2 months after I started them so I could get all my hair to tie up because it was so short. I used a crochet hook to attach them. I loved them and had no issues. Best of all, I could still "be professional" at work because I could style them up better. I have had no damage and since removed them. I wore them for about a year and a half. There are some video tutorials on youtube by zorgzilla and silvija J that are helpful. :)

My new bone and wood beads! :)

Dread Accessories

Hello all! I just wanted to stop by and share with you all what I did with my free time during this break! I carve bone and wood normally, and thought it would be fun to make some dread beads.... I have one design done so far and am finishing up some others. Some of the materials I am using to make these are Hawaiian koa wood(from a damaged tree), cow bone, water buffalo horn, and wire. I love to recycle things and make them beautiful! I have this particular design on my etsy page now if anyone is interested! :)https://www.etsy.com/listing/125842056/hand-made-dread-bead-cow-bone-hawaiian?

So....does anyone have any design ideas? Or any particular style they would like to see me make? I have had so much fun making these!!! :)

I am new to this fabulous community!

Introduce Yourself

I started my dreads about 4 days ago by sectioning. I did twist and rip just to get them started and plan to do the neglect method from now on. They seem to be doing well and are staying separated quite nicely. :)

As and artist, I have always felt like my hair has gotten in the way and I feel like there is not enough time in the day to have to get up and fix it for 30 mins to an hour when I could be in the garage carving instead. So I decided to go with dreads not only for the low maintenance factor, but also because I have always liked dreads and appreciate them for their natural beauty. :)
