Take my advice, NEVER, EVER use dread wax. No matter what anyone tells you, natural dreads is the way to go

Dread Products

I am now a 13 months into dreads, and I have not used wax in 9 months. The people I went to continually told me i NEED to use wax, and even against whatI thought, I tried it. They messed up my hair so much I used to cry about how much wax was in it at night. After starting to use less, and eventually stopping and trying to get it all out after finding this website, I decided, since I could not get it out, that I was going to take them out. I then met someone who convinced me otherwise and started my dreads almost all over again naturally. Right away I could tell how much better my dreads were and how they actually tightened instead of just seeming like they were when they were really only held together by chunks of wax. My dreads are now 13 months along, wax free, and much, MUCH better than they would ever be using wax.

Here are pictures showing the progress

The beginning. With all the wax.

A couple monthes into it. This is when I began taking out the wax.

This is a couple of months ago, so not to recent. But I no longer feel wax residue and they are about wax free, and coming along much, much better, as you can see :) I don't do much to them at all. This is about 8 months into it. You can tell how much more locked they are then with the wax.

Sectioning and Flat Roots - 2 week old dreads

Dreading Methods

the way you described yours is how I started mine snd for the most partt hey tend to do their own thing but every two months otao I have to separate mine a the roots so they don't grow together. you can just snip at the hairs to separate them if that happens

Very relieving! Thanks. They aren't becoming one big dread, they're all pretty separate. I have some lose hairs, but not many, that attempt to combine some of my dreads to one another, but I separate them all because I'd rather not have congos atm.

Should I get a dread perm?

General Questions

I'm scared that they will break off at the roots because I've heard of that happening before from all the chemicals invovled. I've already dealt with a lot of crap from another person I went to messing them up, so I want to do them right this time.

people judging me as a mother and my son

Dreads in the Family

I am so sorry and I feel your pain. I'm only fifteen but I have a six year old brother who I'm often taking care of. when I go out with him people think I'm his mom and seeing me they give the dirty looks and the hushed comments. but I take very good care of him and try to help raise him as a nice, healthy, young boy. people judge my mom for letting me dread my hair and have peircings too. I find it a bunch of bullshit. In the sad society we live in nowadays people judge and succumb to stereotypes. Just because of how I look people assume I am some dumb potsmoking hippie all the time and think I am a bad person for it. I think it's sad that people have come to such a low level, and if they got to know me, and I'm sure a lot of others on this website, they wouldn't assume such rude ideas about us.
