Come on little babies, grow already please!!!

General Questions

10 months here and still shrinking... i think for my hair everything takes longer.

i have a little theory too, that it depends a lot on enviromental conditions.. i spent 2 months in hot mediterian climate with a lot of sea water, and dreads were changing rapidly... here, i live in colder england, inland, no sea here and they are changing a lot slower.... hope it makes sense.

Trimming my 5 month backcombed?

Introduce Yourself

you r nuts! if u ve gone natural,as u say, your dreads would look exactly the same as they look now. backcombed or natural, dreads do job themselves, just leave them and focus on something else..

Hi everyone! what do u think TNR or neglect?..

Introduce Yourself

i personally think the sectioning is good and the hair looks good too, just dont worry about it. t'n'r is just a start to natural dreads and the secret of it all is not to worry about your hair, they will do what they want anyway... your t'n'r is really loose, so its like if u ve gone natural anyway... dont worry, be happy ;)

Beach, Need to wash hair?

Dread Maintenance

hahaha, no you wouldn't stink like rotten fish, unless u accidentally put head in one while sunbathing :D

the odour would be more sea like... i like it, but it might be itchy to some people, its safe to wash salt out...

u should at least rinse out the salt water or u will stink like rotten fish

washing helps dreads dread tho so if u feel dirty or itchy wash by aklll means theres no reason to ever not wash except to let em dry betweeen

Beach, Need to wash hair?

Dread Maintenance

its up to you, how u feel...

from my experience, i would swim in a sea and leave it like that, or just shower afterwards with cold water, nothing else is needed. sea is great for dreads.

but its your hair and you may feel the need to wash, i dont know...

BS/ACV combining? residue in oils?

Dread Maintenance

gallon? isnt it too much? my dreads are not too long but i use only 500ml bottles and thats enough for me. thats 1 tablespoon of bs to one and a splash of vinegar, dont know exactly...lets say u have a common 500ml bottle of coke so its 1cm of vinegar on the bottom, i use white vinegar, maybe u 'd need a tiny bit more of the apple one..than its about 15 drops of rosemary+10 drops tea tree to any of the 2... dont know about the patchuli thing...i do it every washing, thats about once a week, more often is no problem...

I am only using tea tree oil and patchouli oil in my bs. so is it a a cup to a gallon of acv? and is it just acv and water in the second rinse? and is it good to do it more than just once a month?

BS/ACV combining? residue in oils?

Dread Maintenance

why all that vodka??? :))

Knottysleeves said:

I don't usually add much oils to my baking soda wash... most of it gets rinsed away within minutes anyway.

I make dread sprays instead. Get a spray bottle, fill with water and a small splash of vodka, and add your oils. My standard "cooling" spray is about 15 drops of peppermint and 10 of rosemary, plus a bit of jojoba oil for conditioning. I keep it in the fridge and just spray it on whenever my scalp feels itchy or hot.

My "just for good smells" one is water + vodka + pure vanilla extract (the kind used for cooking). I spray it on the length of the dreads rather than the scalp.

BS/ACV combining? residue in oils?

Dread Maintenance

hahaha! yeah, there is a reason for not combining it....

dont worry about 'residue', oils are natural and healthy, they dont stay in your hair forever.

i put 15 drops of rosemary and about 10 of tea tree into 500ml bottle of vinegar water....find your combination, you would probably feel if its too much or too little for u.... dont put too much, bud enough so u can feel it.... simple..
