Welcome to the community Tova Love. You certainly came to the right place to find out what you can do. First I would like to say to have patience for any dread journey, the process and time it takes to grow healthy dreadlocks changes us from within, a journey not to be missed. The dreaducation section at the top of the site is the best place to start for tips. As for the wax, dreads never mature with wax in them, never truly become clean when washed, fell heavier and will hold in pockets of trapped water causing mold down the road. Dreads should be washed 2-3 times a week, sections should be separated if they are trying to join onto each other and that's about all there is to grow dreads.

You are lucky, you live in an area with soft water, so you can use any dread shampoo or bars without any problems. So read the dreaducation section, maybe this post of mine will also help answer some questions you may have. Feel free to make posts to ask whatever you need do, no question is a silly question, we are all here to help you grow healthy dreads....peace

Welcome :) firstly, I notice you combed out your natural dread progress because of the beaver tail forming. Well, I'm happy to say there's a VERY simple solution to stop that happening; you simply separate your dreads. You should do this no matter what method you use, because in the beginning, your hair wants to join together, so you take the connecting dreads and gently pull them apart. Also, palm-rolling is, at best, useless, and at worst, damaging. If you do it now and again it does literally nothing, and if you do it often, it weakens and thins dreads. A member on here, Baba Fats, made a video showing how thin the parts of his dreads are that he used to excessively palm-roll. Personally, I'd give it a miss, you're better off without it.

Any questions, feel free to ask, peace :)

Welcome to the community Bob, and to your 2 month old journey. Hope you are having a wild ride with it. I see you are doing the BS wash, I used that my entire first year and it worked fantastic. Just a note in case you do not know, unless you have a very oily scalp, you should always follow the BS wash with an apple cider vinegar rinse. This will balance back the scalps PH level and also softens the hair / dreads. Also, if you have hard water, you probably should do one of two things for the water you mix the BS into: either use water from a water bottle, I used a cooler size jug, lasted forever....or....boil the water first, let it settle down so the hard water minerals sink to the bottom and then gently pour out the good water to use that for mixing with...this only needs to be done for the BS to dissolve properly. Here is a map so you can see what type you have. Enjoy the site and your journey.....peace http://www.dreadlockssite.com/forum/topics/ratios-baking-soda-wash-apple-cider-vinegar-rinse-sea-salt-mix
