Always wash it out. When salt stays in your hair and scalp, it continues to dry it out even after the water dries. This makes your scalp itch and your hair brittle.
I wash 3 times a week, and use sea salt 2-3 times. Just as long as you don't let it sit there for a while, you should be ok to use it every time you wash.
There's not much you can do that will help lockup your roots without destroying them. Sea salt will help. But that's all you should do. Just soak your hair in it 1-2 hours before you wash them. Don't let the sat stay in longer than that
