Welcome There's no reason to ever maintain with a crochet hook. It is the most damaging thing that can be done to locks. Every time you pass the hook through your hair, it rips dozens, if not hundreds of hairs inside. This weakens your locks severely. In time, they can actually snap in places and even snap off at he root leaving a bald spot

Welcome Tiffany. Your profile says you don't have dreads but want to start by Twist & Rip? Before you start any dreading, like Hippie Love says, read the dreaducation tab at the top of the page. You will learn about all different methods & their pros and cons. You will also learn about maintenance, like washing & scalp care. For healthy locks, never use wax of any kind, nor rubber bands, never use crochet hooks or palm roll. All of these are damaging to dreads. What ever method you decide to go with, let your hair separate naturally for two weeks, this is where the dreads choose to be.

Enjoy your journey, you came to the right place to learn all about healthy dreads. Peace
