Welcome. But I need to warn you that wax is the second worst thing that can be done to locks. The best case scenario is that it completely prevents locks form maturing. They only start to feel mature because the wax begins to harden, giving a false sense of tightening. In 10 years, they still won't be any more mature than the first day you put it in. The worst case scenario (But more common than not), wax causes mold and mildew to grow in your locks, rotting them from the inside out.
This is because wax is a hydrocarbon. It's essentially waterproof. So it makes your hair waterproof. That way, when you wash your hair, no water is actually touching your hair directly. But some water does get trapped in little pockets in your locks. This water becomes stagnant, and creates the perfect conditions for mold to grow.
But all isn't lost. Wax is hard to wash out, but it's not impossible. Because it's a hydrocarbon, no amount of boiling hot water and normal soap will get it out, ever. Instead you need a good quality detergent. Detergents are specifically designed to break down waxes, grease, and oils. A good Dish detergent like Dawn will work. Or Dreadlockshampoo.com sell an outstanding wax remover. There are good instructions for how to remove wax in the dreaducation page. But if you have any questions, feel free to ask.
The important thing to know is that as long as the wax stays in, your locks will never mature. Johnny Clean used wax 7 years ago and can still pull apart his locks and just palm roll them back together. This shouldn't be able to happen once they're older than 6 months
