Oh I see, well I feel better knowing that my affect hasn't been too devastating. And I agree with what you said, my dreads felt weird when I was finished, it may sound corny or cliche but in all honesty the felt... Well... Soulless. Luckily i am extremely lazy and my backcombing job was terrible. After I slept on them and they separated and were born anew the felt like the had character. Even though they looked more sloppy and tangled than uniform dreads they felt alive, like each mass of slightly matted hair was experiencing their rebirth, and becoming what destiny intended. That sounds weird, I know. But in all honesty that's what I felt.

backcombing i wouldnt call devestating effects yes it permenantly harms the hair prying up the cuticle so it cant function but its not like it breaks it into lil peices like crochet does and u didnt use wax or anything so its not really that much harm overall

the worse it does is makes the hair lil easier to harm more with chemicals heat and or harmful manipulation

so the inflicting your will into the formation a aposed to letting nature take its course will probly have more of an affect on the overall journey..if that makes sence

i used to know a girl named sterling she got the name by tapping it out in more code while in her moms womb..or so shee said ant-=yway

Oh yes, you are correct. I back combed it first, but had no idea of the devastating affects it had. Since then my dreads have separated and formed their own path, and I hope my oppressive beginning won't discourage them from following what they see as their destiny. I forgot to mention that. I'll have to edit that sometime. But yes, I have decided that if I try to control the locks, the result will be fake, manufactured if you will. I only hope I haven't damaged them too much because of their Harmful upbringing.

Welcome. Even if you don't touch your roots, twisting more than 2-3 times a year will severely damage your roots. And palm rolling only does 1 of 2 things. if you don't do it much, it only makes them look neat for a few hours. It doesn't create lasting knots. If you do it a lot, it will makes your roots so weak that they may not be able to fix themselves.
