getting undreaded hair into dreads

hey as I got my hair crocheted into dreads i have no idea what to do with them to get hair into them, i have hair coming out of the bottom of them and lots of loose hair at the back and sides, do i ignore this? dread it? I cant see how my loose bits will turn into dreads...Just washed me hair with bsoda and acv, no itching happening so happy days Karen
