I ended up with 45 sections. i tried not to control the parting of the sections too much and just go with what felt right for that piece while still keeping it under about an inch. Every day so far they've surprised me by doing something different, and showing me something new. I've got some that are staying really round still, some that are flattening out, two that are constantly trying to join forces, some loops, some zig zags, and lots of strays trying to find their homes. one day they'll look like they're tightening up, and the next they look like they could fall apart at any minute, and I've only had them for a week now. I am so excited for the lessons I'll learn through this process and seeing where they take me. Thank you so much for your support and advice.
That's so cool your little one helped with your sectioning, glad you shared the photo of it. You are on your way, now you just have to wash every 2-3 days and separate any sections trying to join together. That's it !!! Sit back and watch what happens...looping...temporary frizzies...zigs...zags...shrinkage...mature dreads...yippie!!!
How many sections did you get? They will become the thickness of the section at the scalp. It is always best to make sure that none are larger than 1 inch or a 25 cent coin. The reason is that the larger they are, the longer they take to dry, fat ones take 24 hours or more, and are heavy when long, so they cause tension on the scalp.
