Dread Rant...
Ok, I have been searching online a lot for dread photos and such and I came across something last night that really bothered me.
There was a photo of a gorgeous woman who had natural dreads and I loved it. There were comments of all different opinions below the photo, but the one that really got me was when a guy said "all people with dreads are dirty."
That is bullshit. Why are people so judgemental about things they obviously know nothing about?! You know, some people with dreads are dirty. Just like some people without dreads are dirty. Some fat people are lazy, just like some skinny people are lazy. Don't ever sit there and judge someone for how they look because until you know them, you don't really know how they are! I can't stand how people do this... It drives me insane.

I couldn't go that long without washing my hair, but to each their own... I like that this site is all about the clean way of doing things! lol
I thought dreads had to have wax to form because my roommate in college had dreads and used wax, and everything the touched got greasy. She loved to touch peoples' faces for some reason, and where she would touch my forehead was always breaking out! She also wasn't a very clean person, so she set a pretty bad example as a "dirty hippie". I was reading a blog the other day (not on this site) about a guy's dread process, and he didn't wash his hair for 6 months. He was describing how the grease caked and gooped up on his head. Ew. I was thinking that's probably what people are thinking all dreads are like... greasy, dirty, goopey. Hopefully as more people let their hair dread and do it the clean way, we'll be able to spread the word and example that dreads aren't dirty.
Yea I suppose you are right. I was just blown away that he could say ALL people with dreads are dirty.... I know nothing about knitting, but would I say ALL knitters are old people, no because I am open minded and understand that all people are different! Geez... haha ok I'm calm again
I understand. Part of the reason I went ahead and started dreading was when I finally realized that there is no person alive who will not be judged for something by someone. I don't understand why people are so judgmental, but I guess we're all guilty of it on some level. For me, dreads are a continuation in the journey of not caring what others think... though it still really sucks hearing stuff like that when it's such a misunderstanding. People usually do as people usually do, as my grandpa always said.
