Sounds good. But getting wax out is a bit harder than just using hot water and soap/ because wax is a hydrocarbon, you can't use normal soaps. You'll need to get a good detergent. There are a ton of details of how to get wax out in the dreaducation section of this forum. if you have more questions, let me know

Welcome. It's great that you stopped using the wax. But unfortunately stopping isn't enough. It needs to be removed. If it's left there it will only help prevent your hair from locking. And because wax is waterproof, you have essentially made your hair waterproof, which will keep it from getting clean, and allow mold and mildew to take hold and start to decompose your hair from the inside out.

Welcome to the community and to the best site on the web to learn all about healthy dreadlocks.

If you would like your dreadlocks for years, or even a lifetime, you need to do a few things:

  • you learned about what the crochet hooks do to hair, so good for you to never do that again
  • you need to get all the wax out of your dreads, they will never mature with it in them, never. Wax also holds in water pockets which can cause your dreads to mold inside. Look up the product Wax B Gone on the www.dreadlockshampoo.com website. Only $15
  • wax holds in odors, pollution, dirt, grime, lint...etc.....wax will never come out if you do not remove it, even though you stopped using it, once it too much, it won't wash out ever with just your shampooing
  • Dreads should be clean, at 11 months they should be washed at least once a week, not every two weeks
  • Before you use essential oils for the mold, you have to remove the wax, that is what caused it. Once a few applications of removing it is done, and it is all out, then you can start to use the essential oil to combat mold
  • The following essential oils and what they treat: lavender-mold..... tea tree- dandruff, bacteria & lice prevention.....clove oil- kills germs and spores in mold

If you have any question about the above, please ask, we will get your dreads back on the right track again so you don't have to cut them off, so don't worry....but work on removing the wax first as that is the cause to everything......peace
