gels and waxes and allthat  stuff to 'hold' are scams   while they may appear to help hold loose hairs in they prevent those loose hairs from dreading the loose hairs must be free to move freely and tangle and knot in order to dread

by trying to control the process your actualy not allowing it to progress as it should without being forced to.

even the pat down is somewhat counter productive

heres what i did for the 1st several years... (and pretty much still do to this day) never bothered to look in a mirror, instead used shadows.. if a dread was sticking up in my shadow i'd pat around till i found it and  just move it  or tuck it under another.. that's it

in shadows you don't see every lil hair so you don't worry about them ..you also get a better idea of what others see since from 5 feet away you don't see every lil hair either only close up in a mirror

this will get you in the mindset to not worry about what every last hair is doing so you can adopt a more healthy care regiment.

you can separate by feel without ever looking at a  shadow or mirror, just feel for any dreads needing separation (in most cases only young dreads that dread very fast require daily separation 2 years almost 3 in weekly after a wash is usually plenty

welcome butwe already discussed the latch hooking.. gels are counter productive..and will prevent proper dreading and build up..and rubber bands cause over  a dozen serious issues

i would really recommend you wash more and worry less about the rest

if you keep the gel out of them you won't needto do anything but separate
