Hi Sarah and fellow Canuck, welcome to the community. Glad you found this site to learn how to grown healthy life long dreads. So you already learned no more root flipping and that the crochet hook put back your time with your dreads maturing. Be patient, your dreads will lock up all on their own. All the loose hairs will get sucked into your dreads, as will the broken hairs from the hook. All you need to do is wash and separate them, and of course, have patience for them to lock up completely. By this time next year, you will have the mature dreads you always wanted....they will be maintenance free......peace

Welcome. If you just don't brush, or run your fingers through your hair, it will lock up. Just wash and separate as needed
