Hi Prachi. Pollution is bad for dreadlocks with wax in them, the wax holds all the odors and dust and crap floating in the air. If you keep your dreads product free, and keep them washed like you always did for undreaded hair (but use a dreadlock shampoo for avoid buildup), then you should not have a problem with pollution. It would be the same, dreaded or straight.....Peace.
Welcome to the community Prachi Vijay. Growing natural dreads can take 1-2 years to mature. You can let them separate and dread by the free form method, or you can use the twist & rip method as the second best choice. When you stop combing your hair, it will start to separate into sections. Did this happen when your stopped combing? Well, these sections will start on the journey of dreading, knotting, looping shrinking and turning into mature dreads eventually. What you wash with can make a difference for dreads to form, if what you use is conditioning, then any knots that want to form will slip right back out. All hair will dread on its own, it just takes time and patience. Enjoy your future journey, you can do it....Peace

Welcome. Just 1? If you just start with 1, you'll more than likely end up wanting your whole head locked.
And like Eagle said, getting them "done" is really bad for your hair, and locks. It tends to even prevent them from ever maturing.
How were you thinking about starting?
