I don't like weed

It kinda bothers me that dreadlocks must be mixed up with weed all the time. I am a guy who does not like to be under the influence of neither alcohol or drugs. I enjoy being high on life though, love is my favorite drug. Love is the greatest high of all.I don't want to promote the use of weed with my hairstyle. I would like to wash all weed of all the dreadlocks in the world. I would rather like dreadlocks to be connected with love. Can't we organize that?

Just get over it. Unfortunately it is what it is...and I really highly doubt it will ever change.

but yeah I know your position,

dreadlocks get the stereotype that they are all "weedheads"

it really is sad :/

Well...everybody has a different definition....everybody wants to use the definition that is giving....my personal opinion is that if you have to add to a plant regardless of what it's purpose is then its a drug...a plant is a plant then man add the chemicals to make that drug regardless if its good or bad but I don't even know why I'm even defending weed...I don't even use the stuff so drug or no drug....it everybody personal opinion but the topic is weed and dreads....tired of people mixing the two....every dude I know that smoke don't even have hair let along dreads....the people I know that have dreads all are regular average go to work normal people that enjoy there natural hair.

Gregory, by that definition, Aspirin isn't a drug. Aspirin, whether made in a lab or by extractingacetylsalicylic acid from the bark of a white willow tree is the exact same chemical. It's a matter of purity and concentration. Chemists can produce THC in a lab, made by chemicals. Is that THC different from the impure THC that come from burning it off of the bud of a cannabis plant? Is the lab made THC a drug while the same chemical from a plant not a drug?

Drugs effect the chemical balances in your body. Whether from a plant or lab, drugs are drugs.

Now, there is the connotations of the word drug. Some people use it as a term for medicine. Some use it in aderogatorymanner. That's a manner of what you want to call a "drug". Weed can be medicinal. It can be recreational. But calling it something different doesn't change the fact that it's a chemical that works on your body.

Almost all medicinal drugs on the market and in R&D find their sources in plants. But plants are impure. It takes a lab to make them pure. The closest thing you can do to weed to make it pure by yourself is to use a vaporizer. But even the best and most expensivevaporizersdon't clean the THC up 100%

It's all a matter of opinion. I have friends in recovery that only smoked pot. It can be considered a drug. Mushrooms are considered drugs but they're natural.

Ok...weed is not a drug...drugs are man made....weed is a leaf that grows from the earth but i don't smoke weed either and i am getting tired of the stereo-type that dread heads are weed heads

Thanks for your open mind Peaceful Dread. I must say that I mostly agree. We are all products of our society in one way or another. I drive on the right side of the road (except in merry ole England) because if I didn't, the path would prove itself unsustainable in no time. The type of conformity that you refer to on this web site is the dangerous kind. The good news is that all information is provisional. The decision making is always left up to the individual. Don't do yourself the injustice of letting other people make up your mind for you. That being said, there is a lot of info out there that can point you in the right direction. I concur that pointing our fellow brethren in the direction that we have found to be most beneficial is an attempt towards a conformity of our own understanding, but allow me to argue for a proper context of conformity. Anytime conformity precedes community, we are standing on thin ice. I could expound upon this, but for time sake, let me focus on the more positive aspects. Individuals form community which in turn will produce various forms of conformity which gives rise to civilizations (otherwise we would constantly be having head-on collisions!) We must tread very carefully that we don't get this out of order, lest we experience a myriad of perversions that create a platform to harm our fellow brethren (and sisteren). Have you ever heard of the art of alchemy? The basic premise is that all experience, no matter what form it comes in, can be turned to good by a single catalyst: YOU. When I first came on this sight, I got a bitter taste in my mouth from all those "fundamental dreadknots". I allowed myself to remain in the tension long enough to find valuable information in the shitty way that they were presenting it. Thus the art of alchemy: turning shit into gold. If you are able to, don't let these stereotypes that you are experiencing move you towards an unhealthy form of conformity, rather look for a way to turn that shit into gold brother. All it takes is to remain in the tension until the catalyst (you) has found a way to marry the two.

Thanks for your comments, guys.

Joshua, I like your style of reasoning and I like the way you use your language. I had to think several turns before I had a clue about what you were saying. I believe conformity is human. I am not saying it is always something good, but I believe it is something that we must struggle with in one or another way.Conformity is what society is a lot about. We have conformity in this forum and this forum is a small society in itself. You can't be who you want to be in here and still expect to be accepted. An example could be the limited acceptance we have for ppl that like dread wax and crochets. Even when you are walking by somebody's side and point towards what you think is a fuller life, you are promoting conformity by trying to make that person go where you want her/him to go. But I think I understand your point. You want me to not be bothered about what ppl think about my hairstyle. And I am not, because every day I am proving to somebody that they are wrong about who they think I am. So I actually feel that I am spreading light with my hairstyle. One can also look at it and think that I am promoting conformity towards a common understanding that not all dreadheads smoke weed. =)

Even before I started the dreads, I had really long hair past my ass. People would always assume that i was a pothead/druggie or whatever, so maybe its not entirely a Dread thing, maybe its more of a long hair thing?
