Welcome. When they are dirty, they deserve more than a soak. Are you using any soap? Also, how often do you wash? It's best to wash every 2-3 days

Welcome. It's cool that you want locks, but wax will only prevent locks from forming. All wax, gels, and creams do is stick your hair together and give the impression of locks. Because your hair can't move around freely and loop, no knots actually form. If you back combed first, they will never mature past the first day you put the wax in. And because wax is a hydrocarbon, no amount of normal soap and water will wash it out, ever. Hydrocarbons need a detergent and TONS of scrubbing to remove it. As water gets into the lock, it won't be able to dry completely. This will cause mold and mildew to grow inside your hair. It happens to everyone who uses wax. Most cover up the smell with oils or more wax, so it's not as noticeable for a while. But if left alone, it can get out of control. I lost 1/2 my hair to rot with my first set because of wax.

Not to mention that wax is sticky and picks up lint and dirt extremely easily.

There are plenty of posts and links to help you remove wax. if you need any help or clarification, let us know

Welcome to the community. Some useful info for you here. (Dead URL) http://www.dreadlockssite.com/forum/topics/some-links-for-those-new-to-the-forum/a>

You need to remove the wax ASAP. It will kill your dreads. There is more info in the link, towards the end.
