Welcome. I'm guessing you had your locks done at a salon of sorts. That's why they were waxed and crocheted. Unfortunately, you were scammed. It happens. I was scammed with my first set too. I posted my story a few places on the site over time.
Wax completely stops locks from forming. It only gives the illusion of have what looks like dreadlocks. The crocheting breaks your hair into little pieces and is only a little less damaging than wax. Maybe just as damaging, in different ways. Crocheting weakens your locks and causes them to break off in places if it's continued. You may not see this damage because the wax is still gluing them together.
Crocheting can be fixed and heal over time by just leaving them alone and washing regularly. But wax does not wash out in normal soap and water. It needs a detergent like Dawn Dish soap or the Wax-b-gone from dreadlockshampoo.com.
I guarantee, even if you can't feel wax anymore, it's all still there. Now it's justburieddeep inside you locks
To see any progress, you really need to get it out and let them start healing

Welcome. Eagle is right. Crocheting should be left for making tams, and scarfs and other clothes. It should never be used on your hair. It does so much damage that can't be fixed
