Welcome. I have to warn you that as long as the wax stays in, your locks will never mature. Wax prevents progress. It acts like glue, holding your loops, bumps, and knots down flat. Without those, no progress takes place. In 10 years, they'd be no more mature than if they were 2 weeks.

And wax is a hydrocarbon, so no amount of hot water and soap will get it out. You need a detergent and weeks of scrubbing to get it all cleaned out. As long as it stays in, you run a serious risk of mold/mildew growing in your hair.

As for crocheting... Crocheting is worse for locks than wax is. It does nothing to help them mature, but will actually delay progress by about 6 months, just from the first session. With every pass of the hook, it rips hundreds of hairs into smaller and smaller pieces. This makes your locks extremely weak and fragile.

Check out the recovery forums to see what others, who have crocheted, are going through.
