Dreads do like to start knotting on about 6 inches of hair. It will certainly form into sections at a shorter length, but will knot around 6 inches, maybe 5
based on my experience i would NEVER recommend to start neglecting too early. I started when my hair was 4 inches, and i got a lot of problems [dreads shrinking to 2cm, and having to separate everyday, a lot of broken hair because of separation, and the hair dreads slow].
I'm having good results now, 13 months later, but i still have problems to separate, and that's fucking annoying, if i could go back i would haven't neglected my hair too early.

longer dreads faster but shrinks more
