It's good that you stopped using wax. But stopping using it isn't actually enough. It's still in there. Wax needs a detergent and TONS of scrubbing to get it out. Have you done any wax removal sessions yet? If not, check out the dreaducation page. Or just ask, it's a bit time and energy intensive, but it'll really help clean up your hair and make your locks healthier.
Lush isn't the greatest, but it's far from the worst. Many people have used it and love it. I prefer Bucks County Soaps. Dreadlockshampoo.com. Check them out. They are absolutely amazing.
There's no reason to roll your roots. When you do that, it's like rubbing a brillo bad against your scalp, it rips hair ou and breaks hairs at the root. This will make your locks form weak spots. I did it when I first started. I have tons of weak spots and one of my locks actually just snapped off in the shower over the weekend. I posted a video about it.
When you use Sea salt, be careful not to let it sit in your hair for more than 2 hours. It dries out your hair and scalp. If left in for too long, it will make your hair brittle and over dry your scalp, which can itch like crazy
Welcome to the website and amazing community! Baba is correct, dreads should be free, excluding the minimal cost of baking soda. You can use other soaps too, but do you dye your hair often?
Welcome. I have to let you know that knotty boy and dreadhead HQ are scams. They only sell products that destroy locks. They then sell products to fix the damage they caused in the first place. I hope you didn't get suckered into using wax. Wax, at best, completely prevents locks from ever maturing. It just glues your hair in place, making them look like locks. As it hardens, it give the impression that your locks are mature. But they never mature with wax gunked inside of them. And because wax is a hydrocarbon, it NEVER washes out in normal soap and water. It NEEDS a detergent and serious scrubbing to clean it out.
If you got sucked into using a crochet hook, too, stop. Crocheting is the absolute most damaging thing that can be done to locks. It rips hair to shreds, making your locks weaker and weaker. It over tightens them and makes them hard and stiff. The most mature locks should be soft and spongy.
