And just stopping wax isn't enough. It has to be aggressively removed. The dreaducation page has a few ways to get rid of it. If you need any help, let me know
Welcome. At best, wax will completely prevent locking. But in many cases it creates mold. Wax is a hydrocarbon. That means it won't dissolve in water. Since normal soap won't wash it out, water that does make it to your hair gets trapped there and festers. It begins t dissolve your hair and it rots.
Even occasional waxing will cause this to happen. And worse, because it creates layers of wax and hair. It is a pain to get rid of, but it is absolutely necessary to grow healthy long lasting locks
