Welcome. The first page you should check out is the dreaducation page. Then the timeline forums to see what the first weeks/months of the process look like.

Dreadlocks take time and patience. On average, it takes about a year to grow mature locks. There no way to make this happen faster without completely destroying your hair. If you don't want to have locks for years, and only want them for a season, there are ways to create fake locks with a crochet needle, but the more you crochet, the more likely it'll be that you have to cut your hair shorter to take them out. With healthy locks, you can brush them out with a lot of patience and conditioner.
