View AllFinally starting my own dreadlock timeline! My dreads were started by using a combination of (mostly) backcombing, twist 'n rip, crotchet, and braids. I wash my hair once a week with baking soda and apple cider vinegar. For maintainence, I use a tiny crotchet hook weekly to get all the loose hairs in. I also utilize an eensy-bit of root-rubbing when i feel like the roots have grown out too much. I work in a professional atmosphere, so I have to look somewhat presentable
Before starting my knotty journey
My crazy-ass newborns
Day afterwards, and a lot less, uh, sticky-uppy
One month old
@ Two months of age
Three months later!
Four awesome months later. Starting to get super knots going!
The dreadies at 5 months and looking very lovely :hrt:
I can't believe it's been six months already! Some of my dreads are completely solid, and others are still floppy. Still learning to trust the process. There are some days when I just look at the mess that is my hair and wonder what I was thinking. Most days though, I freaking love 'em. :lovesight:
Onto month seven! I have to admit that I have been very, very lazy in terms of "maintenence". Basically all I did this month was wash my hair once a week. They got really long really quickly, and I've got a ton of loose hairs, especially by my face and neck. They are actually pretty awesome though- so I think I'll keep going with it!

Happy eight months to me! I had a friend of mine bleach the tips of my dreads. I like it so much I think I'm going to do the entire dread in a month! And just a warning- went a little far with the photo editor

And some crazy double-loop dread that I just had to share with ya'll:
Onto nine months of the journey! I'm a bit late in posting because I was at Electric Forest (aka Rothbury) in Michigan I'm finally able to pull all or them into a kind-of-ponytail, so that's been an exciting development! Well, without further ado:

And onto 11 months! During month 10 I was kidnapped and taken to the Sahara desert, but I was fortunately let go by my captors. So if you were wondering what happened... it was completely beyond my power! Anyways, the past couple months I've done little beyond washing my hair weekly. I tried that deep cleansing by kyndmama yesterday and was surprised and impressed by the results
Aaaaaannnndddd here is the knotty, gnarly, monstrous mess that my head has become!

Aaaaaaaannnddddd.... ONE YEAR!!
This has been a hell of a journey so far- I had NO IDEA what I was getting myself into, and am so thankful at the same time. I have tons of wispies everywhere, but have stopped trying to control them. Well, enough talking, here are the pics!
I know I say this every time, but I can't believe it's been 14 months already They're turning into massive ropes of hair. One of my dreads split into two at the base (over the course of months) so I finally just ripped it to create 2. Total dread count: 32. Enough blabbering, onto the pics! Btw, Bowzer, the tat pics are for you
Isn't it cute?!
Then I discovered it's hard to take pics of your own arm!
Wow, it's been a year and a half now! In the last 4 months I've re-bleached the tips and added some awesome wraps n stuff. I also cut off the dread right at each temple to give myself more of a dread-hawk look. They're as crazy as ever! I've been gaining a lot of length, and they feel like chunks of rope growing from my head now. I love 'em more and more every month!
AND 20 months! It's a wee bit earlier than that, actually, but I had some great pics that I had to share and am using this excuse! There's a 5K called the Color Run, in which there are 5 color stations along the race where you get pelted with powdered pain of different colors. As you will soon see, it had an awesome effect on my hair! PS- After washing, I still have blue tips
Oh, my! 22 months. Nearing in on the 2-year mark! Well, my bad boys seems to be gaining naught but length these days, which is exactly what I desire! I also took the plunge and buzzed the sides where I had cut off a couple of dreadlocks. It'll grow back if I don't like it... right?!?!
Close up of side (both look the same):
Hair up and looking awesome and dread-hawky:
Regular frontal shot to show off the length:
Finally at two years! Without further ado- the pictures:
Wow, kind of let time get ahead of me. My dreads have gotten so long since the last photo-op! I can't even take a photograph of myself so that it includes the entire length of my hair Also, I went to a local dreadlocks salon a couple months ago for my first "touch up" session! That was exciting.
Three years old!
On to four years of locked loveliness! I can't believe it's been so long already. They're getting so long. And so heavy. A few times a month I fantasize about a pixie cut, honestly. :raincloud: Also, it's hard for me to get through a trip to the store or social outing without one stranger touching me or asking questions. If anyone has any words of wisdom regarding getting through this, it would be much appreciated. :help: Anyways, here's what I'm sure you're here for:
Check out my awesome shirt!!
And last one :dreads: :hrt:
Thanks for looking! Happy dreading :hrt: :dreads: :hrt:
ah i see u stopped the crochet but add that to the timelines section of the forums
post the timeline in the forums but if you crochet weekly they won't last long at all you are destroying them yor creating the loose hairs your fixing by breaking thousands of hairs everytime u use the hook your not letting them dread properly and it ill take many years to recover from the crocheting you did!
many
it takes 3 years to recover from 1 crochet use
crochet weekly isnt little maintenance thats extremely excessive maintenance
welcome but be a lil carefiul washing only with bs/acv long term it severely weakens hair
