Thank you Naomi! I appreciate that. I did TnR for that reason, because my hair naturally sections in very large chunks. I was afraid if I did all natural I would have 6 huge dreads and that wasn't me. Plus I know that they will get fatter as time goes and I want them for life so I figured I'd start out small. I only did Loose TnR one time and I'm leaving the rest to nature. BTW,welcome to the site too and thank you for the add. I noticed you live in Prescott Valley. Our family has lived in Prescott several times for about 12 years total. We love that area! In our gypsy days we lived in the gypsy camp by the lynx lake ruins, worked the peddlers pass swap meet making jewelry, selling things we would find, and reading Tarot cards (which didn't go over real well back then Lol!!) I had an antique booth in Penningtons and I sold clothes to Snap Snapregularly. Took welded metal sculpture classes at Yavapai College for a summer. My husband worked for ACE hardware later on in PV. There used to be a great recycled clothing shop called Thread Heads owned my Marina in Prescott. Is it still there? It's a small world isn't it? My nephew still lives there, Chris Kerr. Anyway, drop me a line and tell about your life in Yavapai County. : ) We do miss the west sometimes. It is nice to meet you and good luck with your dread journey! <3
If TnR is working for you - and it looks as if it is - why not keep going without regret. Your hair doesn't look at all manipulated in the photos. If you'd gone totally natural, your dreads might've ended up the same as they're going now. Who knows?

! Lol!!!! Don't do that, you're as bad as me! I'm scouring the photos on here alot in complete dread envy! Hahaha! Seriously, I almost talked myself out of dreading because I thought mine wouldn't do this, or that. I agonized over going natural or TnR, and after I decided and did TnR I thought about taking them out and going natural again. I was a mess for the 1st few days. Lol! Yeah, I have seen alot of people on here starting with flat hair and they end up with these cool faerie looking dreads that just transform them. I can't wait to see how yours transforms too. If I can't be going natural I can at least enjoy watching other people going that way. It's very fun!
Your spiral dreads are going to be really special. Now I'm envious again! LOL Please keep sending pics. On enjoying our hair, after a few weeks without combing I was delighted to finally have big hair, instead of straight flat curtains hanging down. It took a while but I'm finally loving the untidiness.

Exactly It is funny how we always wanted want we didn't have. Me longing for straight hair and you for curly. I had years of harassment when I was little from being called names & picked on because of my curly hair. The older I got the more people would rave over it and I still was in the trying to do everything to tame it. After I put the TnR sections into it, it was almost straight looking for a couple days. It almost looked strange to me because I wasn't used to it. By the 3rd day it was more spirally curly then ever. Each individual baby dread is a spiral now, like curly fries Lol! I am actually enjoying my hair for the first time in a very long time It sounds like we both are enjoying our decisions
I take the same attitude as you in regard to shrinkage. Waiting for the re-growing is part of the journey. Since childhood I always envied wavy hair - because mine wasn't. I got curly perms in my twenties my poor hair went 'Aaaagh!' Though everyone's dreads will look different as they form and grow, I see natural dreads as a great equalizer. We're all letting nature, not chemistry, look after our hair.

Thank you Hippiegal! I appreciate that Yeah, I guess if it can't shrink then it won't dread and that would defeat the whole purpose of this. I plan on having them for life so if it does shrink alot, I have a lifetime for it to grow. I looked at your pics and it is separating & knotting alot. I have always enjoyed watching people with straighter hair go the natural way. If mine was straight and smooth I would have done it in a second that way. I LOVE the way straighter hair dreads. It looks so cool! Your hair looks thick too, so your dreads are going to be great! My hair being so thick, course and kinky curly naturally sections in huge chunks and I personally would not have been happy with 6-8 big dreads which is what I was afraid of. Thanks again
