Welcome. Stopping using wax is great. But it's not enough. Wax NEVER washes out in normal soap and water. It needs a detergent and tons of scrubbing and time. How many times did you use wax. I can help you figure out how long you'd need to use the detergent for. It's a pain, but your locks won't mature with the wax still in there. Hair many tangle around it, but the core will still be loose. At that point it's a real pain to get it out

You shouldn't be palm rolling either. It does nothing to help, and will do devastating damage if done enough to create knots.
