Yup, that looks like a lot of broken hair, with fragile twisted roots. I'd totally stop twisting and allow the new growth to come in. If you can wait out some new growth you might be able to save the most fragile ones by joining some new hair with the old dreads but *not by twisting*!! String or beads.
Yeah, I do retwist about once a month to keep them neat looking,,,
Also I'm no expert but it seems like if you twist your hair too much, especially hair that is so long and heavy, you are weakening it at the roots. Stoppppp I know stuff like that can be addicting. I play with my hair a lot [which has actually really slowed the dreading process] and I bite my nails sometimes, have ever since I was little. Stoppppp. :P
I'm not sure what you're talking about, but I'm going to guess youre asking about the thinness a the roots and large space between?That is likely due to twisting. Do you twist? If so.... stop.
And can it be fixed? I've some dreads in the process and I don't want to cut them off, but can't hae them with this in the middle of my head :{
