Tips... Well... Don't palm roll at all. Palm rolling only does 1 of 2 things. Either you don't do it hard enough and it has to be done daily to see them be cleaned up. But it only lasts a few hours at most. Or you do see progress and knotting, and you will, undoubtedly, destroy your roots. Palm rolling rips out hairs and twists and torques your locks to the point where the roots get thinner and thinner. It's damage that you don't see right away, which is the worst kind. When you can see it instantly, you can fix it easily. The damage done by palm rolling doesn't show up for months or even a year. But when you hair grows out and you can see how much thinner the roots have gotten, it's very hard to fix. Check out my video on what palm rolling did to my locks.

As for the root rubbing. Dreadlocks are rough. Root rubbing thins out your roots and does very similar damage to them that palm rolling does, and again, you won't see it for a long time. What you may see sooner is sores start to form on your scalp. Rubbing something rough on your scalp over and over again is bad for you. It opens up sores that are hard to get to to treat, and may cause hair to not grow back there.

There is absolutely no time in which you should do any maintenance to your roots. They need to be loose to knot up. Any loose hairs at your roots are essential for new growth to snag hold of and tangle with as they grow out. If youconstantlymess with your roots, that hair goes away and as your locks grow, the roots get thinner and thinner until they are too thin to hold the lock and it can just fall out.

As for what to do with the tips. Nothing. Blunted tips hold water for up to twice as long as loose tips. This ca give mold and mildew a better chance to grow in your locks. Loose tips allow water to drain right out.

If you really want blunted tips, wait until your locks are completely mature. At least a year old. Better yet, older. Then you can trim the loose hair off. It won't make more hair loose. I did it to one of mine to see what would happen. but In a year or more, you may decide you like how much faster they dry and how more natural they look with wispy tips

Welcome. But don't add products later either. Products ruin locks
