Welcome. Use soap. Get yourself a non-residue soap, and wash with that, 2-3 times a week. If you have soft water, you can use Dr. Bronners (mix 1 part soap with 12-40 parts water, or use one of their bars soaps). Or you can use the baking soda/apple cider vinegar wash (1/2 cup BS in 5 cups water. mis well, pour over your head and sit for 10 minutes. Rinse VERY well. Then mix 1 tsp ACV in 5+ cups water, pour, rinse right away). If you have hard water, get the soaps from Dreadlocksshampoo.com. They are the best anyway, and are designed for hard or soft water. Dr. B's won't work in hard water because it is a castile soap, and the BS/ACV wont work because it's a salt, and wont dissolve well in hard water.
Now that you are washing, leave them alone. Dreadlocks generally need about 5-6 inches to start forming actual knots, but shorter hair will start to section itself. You may want to do a little separating if you need to. But at 2 inches, you probably won't, yet.
There really is no secret to starting locks. Nor maintaining them. In fact, dreadlocks are supposed to be the most basic and easiest hairstyle to have. Check this page out that I made a while ago. it's got some helpful hints from me and other members.
