Hi and thanks for reading......
I started my dreadlocks 3 months ago, I had been washing with bs and acv for the past year anyway so I just stopped brushing, it went pretty wild in the first 4 weeks and one tiny knot formed, I otherwise have dry but quite soft hair anyway but this one patch where it knotted has always tangled really easy, the rest of my hair stayed the same anyway. I go surfing twice a week so was hoping the salt would help but it didn't seem too, after 8 weeks there was definite sections but no knots so being impatient one night I twisted the sections, I didn't do it very tight it only took an hour to twist about 32 in, just tried to get the knotting started and it seemed to take hold really well then I went on holiday with my family and didn't realise how damaging the chlorine would be to the babies!
So when I came back home not one knot besides from the patch at the back, so I retwisted them back in, which i know I shouldn't have but I am really struggling with being patient...
They started to fall out really quickly, like overnight so I just retwisted a few of the ends ( daily!!) which seemed to help them knot well and I felt like I was getting somewhere, then I went surfing a few days ago, it's really cold here in uk so I wore a hood for the first time and when I took it off there were extreme knots which I thought finally!! But I had to literally rip my hair apart and a lot of the dreads practically balled up which i know may happen naturally over time but I feel like I've forced It to happen and don't want to cause damage in the future.
The ones at the front just look and feel like soft braids and I can feel them coming out but I have resisted and not retwisted them....
I'm feeling like I've just made a mess of it and the urge to stick my head in a bucket of conditioner is pretty strong!!
Sorry for such a long post any words of wisdom would be much appreciated.....

I think they look great. I am also around three months (three 1/2 or so), so we may have similar issues. I also have been re-twist & ripping, at the ends only, as they fall out after I wash, every time, and I get so frustrated with it! When I did nothing at all, after 2 washes and almost a week without a wash, many of them had completely fallen out. As it is, I had even gotten my first public compliment at only three months, and they are dreading up nicely. (Except the dang ends)! I say, if you have found something to be damaging, don't do it anymore, and if something helps, keep doing it! All the best of luck to you (and me - hope we don't go bald)! But I would not start over - they look nice.
just stop twisting them twisting will do nothing but harm and slow or stop progress everytime you do it
if it was twist and rop nit just twisting then youd only do it once and once only then leave them alone
other then that..your fine they look great and the only issue here is the twisting
now if u would have left them alone theyd be way farther along
once 1 dread starts another will be soon to follow then more and more
but your twisting undid all that progress
just keep youir hands off dont wear a hood (surf when its warm out)
and give it time
They are looking wonderful.. No need to start over! :D Much love and peace to you :D
Not sure if you'd have to necessarily start over but DO NOT TWIST YOUR HAIR. It puts major pressure on your scalp and makes your hair break.
