No, it's probably not too much, but it will take a lot longer for them to recover. Again, it depends on how aggressive you were with the hook. Post some pictures and we will be better able to judge. Put the pictures in a discussion if you want a good number of people to weigh in. But, you could be looking at 6 months to a year full recovery time.

Welcome. Like Kelly and Eagle said, crocheting is the most damaging thing to be done to locks. If you only used it once to start, it'll take about 6 months to recover, but it will. If you use it often for maintenance, it only rips your hairs to shreds and makes your locks weaker.

Welcome to the community. Crochet breaks hairs when you shove it through. It make the dreads weaker every time. It is by far the worst thing you can do to them. It will take months to recover from, the length of time being dependent on how much you abused them.
